Unlike conventional CT systems, these units possess multiple detector rows allowing both fast scanning with lower radiation dose and high-resolution image quality. Computed tomography angiography is a computed tomography technique used to visualize arterial and venous vessels throughout various parts of the body and a non-invasive method of screening for arterial diseases.

All CT scans can be performed with and without contrast within a very short time. Providing high quality diagnostic images, CT scan is particularly well suited to quickly examine children and non-cooperative patients (emergencies, elderly patients, post-accident, etc.) With CT Angiography examinations, various arteries and veins can be evaluated in detail, without need for a more intravenous angiography method in which a catheter is inserted into an artery in the groin. Unlike Catheter Angiography, CT-angiography enables the visualization of both the walls and the inner layers of veins. Information about heart functions and images of the cardiac cavities can also be obtained. The latest technology allows to reduce the dose of x-ray even to lower levels than that of the standard conventional angiography.
